I had used the factory reset disks that came with the laptop to reset it to OEM state and then found that it would not update any better than the clobbered Shut down windows firewall and the rest is history. 207 important updates became almost immediately available. It did not fail and then it installed the updates to the OS automatically. So I turned on again my computer, then I pressed "ESC" quickly.
